Instagram planning to launch a Twitter-like decentralized social text platform

Meta may bring a decentralized social media platform, more similar to Elon Musk’s Twitter.

Meta is the parent company behind Facebook, Instagram, & WhatsApp. This company shifted its focus toward the development of Metaverse-related high-class services, in Q3 2022.

In March of this year, Meta confirmed that it is exploring a decentralized standalone text-only platform, focussed on creators to help them to update their real-time interests.

On 19 May 2023, Lia Haberman, an influencer marketing and social media marketing teacher at the University of California, uncovered the secret plan of Meta, where this company planned to develop a Twitter-like platform.

This new app will be on the top of the Instagram platform, in short, the new social media/text app will be integrated with the Instagram platform.

Lia noted that the interface of Instagram is more similar to Twitter’s interface but will be decentralized & work as a separate app.

Bloomberg reporter Sarah Frier confirmed that Meta’s latest plan is dedicated to creating better competition against Twitter.

Social media apps & Web5

Recently former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced the launch of the Web5 platform, to allow apps to store data in a fully decentralized environment. Now it will be interesting to see the core technology behind the new social media platform of Instagram, whether it will use a decentralized concept to provide service or it will remain fully centralized like all other social media platforms of Meta.
